Cold winter and environmentally conscious customers grew the sales numbers of Eesti Gaas
During the first three months of the year, Eesti Gaas has grown the sales of pipe gas, compressed natural gas and electricity.
From January to March, Eesti Gaas sold 182,4 mln m3 of gas, during the same time last year, the sales was 176,5 mln m3. So the sales of this year’s quarter was 5,9 mln m3 bigger than last year. „The biggest growth in sales is related to the weather – the winter was colder this year than in the beginning of last year,“ explained Ants Noot, the managing director of Eesti Gaas.
An important growth in the consumption of compressed natural gas (CNG) has occurred, 2,0 mln m3 was sold in three months, during the same period last year, the sales was 1,3 mln m3. „The sales of compressed natural gas is characterized by three factors – firstly, the consumers are more environmentally conscious and they want to buy cleaner and more environment friendly gas. Secondly, several bus and taxi companies have switched to compressed natural gas. And thirdly, the number of buyers can increase only if there is supply – we are currently expanding our network of stations, we opened a new sales point only recently on Tehnika street in Tallinn, which in addition to selling CNG is the first seller of home-made biomethane in Estonia,“ Noot said.
Currently, Eesti Gaas has eight gas stations, four of them in Tallinn, two in Pärnu, one in Tartu and one in Narva. This year, stations are also planned to be opened in Viljandi, Rakvere and Jõhvi.
The sales of electricity by Eesti Gaas have also grown considerably. In three months, 22,9 GWh of electric energy has been sold, last year the same number was 12,7 GWh. In a yearly comparison, the number of customers has also grown by more than one and a half times. „The electricity sales volumes are yet relatively small but the constant growth in the number of customers is delightful, it shows that we offer high-quality service with competitive prices,“ Noot said.
The supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) has increased as well. In the first three months, 3743 tons of LNG were sold, which makes about 5,5 mln m3 in pipe gas units.
AS Eesti Gaas is one of Estonia’s largest and oldest energy companies. The core product of the company is natural gas – an economical and clean source of energy, which is suitable for both heating and input of technological processes, and as transportation fuel on both land and the sea. Eesti Gaas purveys natural gas to its customers in the form of pipe gas, compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquid natural gas (LNG), it also sells locally sourced biomethane.
Upon joining the gas service, the buyer gets a full energy solution from Eesti Gaas, from projecting the pipeline to the construction of the heating system and boiler maintenance. Eesti Gaas also sells electricity to both domestic and business customers and develops different energy production solutions. The company has 48 000 customers and 220 employees.
